Today we will be talking about the god of the underworld: Hades (roman form: Pluto). By the way, one fact that I have about Hades is that his name in Greek means "invisible". Hades was a child of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. He had two younger brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, and three sisters, Hestia, Hera, and Demeter. His wife is Persephone, whom he kidnapped from his sister Demeter and took with him down to the Underworld.
There is a famous myth that goes with Persephone and Hades. Hades came onto the world of the living, which is Gaea's territory (we will talk about Gaea in another Episode). Then he kidnapped Persephone, and brought her to the underworld. Before she left, Hades made her eat 3 pomegranate seeds, the food of the underworld, each standing for a month that she needs to go back to the underworld. That is why we have seasons now.
The sacred symbol of Hades was his helmet, which helped him stay invisible. His sacred animal was Cerberus, his own three-headed dog. Cerberus is the child of Typhon and Echidna. Minos, Rhadamanthus, and Aeacus are the three judges that considers which place does each dead person go.
Overall, I think that Hades is a very important part of the Olympians. Without him, the dead cannot thrive. Heroes cannot be rewarded and live in harmony in the underworld without him. I don't really like how Hades leaves most of the dead wondering on the field of Asphodel. Don't misunderstand this, lord Hades. I also want to live longer!
